Walsgrave is a residential suburb in northeast Coventry, known in full as Walsgrave-on-Sowe, with Sowe being the local river. Walsgrave is part of the city council’s Henley Ward.
Historically it was a separate village outside the city named Sow or Sowa. There is evidence of Roman occupation in the district and the village in mentioned in the Domesday Book. The name Walsgrave on Sowe was first mentioned in 1695. The village was incorporated into Coventry in the 1920s.
Today the neighbourhood is mainly residential but is dominated by various shopping centres and the impressive University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
